The University was amongst the first in the Country to establish Correspondence Education Courses in the year 1969, on the suggestions of the Dr.Kothari Committee , established by the Central Board of Education.
In the year 2014, the University, recognizing the changing needs of students across the country, the University has once again shown the way by introducing courses in the online mode,
To introduce these out-reach and online programs, University of Mysore has established a separate office in the name of “Directorate of Online Programmes”. The Directorate is responsible for all matters pertaining to Outreach and Online programs of the University of Mysore. The Department is housed out of the University of Mysore Manasagangotri Campus.
The Department was inaugurated on the 3rd of September, 2014 by Shri R V Deshpande , Pro Chancellor and the Hon’ble Minister of Higher Education, and Tourism, Government of Karnataka, in the presence of Shri V Sreenivas Prasad,Hon;ble Revenue Minister , Government of Karnataka, and Smt. Pramoda Devi Wadiyar, Wife of Late Srikanta Datta Wadiyar, and presided by the Honble Vice Chancellor , Prof K S Rangappa
